Andrew Maurice MacFarlaine, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of low-range drink driving at Milton Local Court on Thursday, March 14.
Facts tendered to the court said MacFarlaine was stopped at a random breath test stop on Jacobs Drive, Sussex Inlet on January 25.
He told police he had consumer two beers at the Archer Hotel, Nowra. He returned a positive reading and was arrested and conveyed to the Sussex Inlet police station.
During that time MacFarlaine provided his licence and informed police he had "actually consumed four full strength beers" while driving from Mittagong to Sussex Inlet. He also said he had finished a beer about five minutes before being stopped.
Following a 15-minute mandatory waiting time, he submitted a breath test at 7.03pm, blowing 0.069.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said his action of drinking while driving compounded the danger of driving on country roads and fatigue after work.
"I find that astounding," Magistrate Fleming.
MacFarlaine was also convicted and fined $500.
