Her exhibition ‘East of the Divide’ will be officially opened on Saturday, April 5 at Tallwood’s Eatery, Mollymook from 3.30pm.
Ann’s expressive style is distinctive and varied, showcasing her use of mixed media and layering to explore the Australian landscape in its raw and natural state.
The collection includes bold abstract works on paper and colourful expressionist works on canvas, which are the result of an individual response to the place at the time.
The eucalypts, rivers, ocean and coastal landforms feature in many of Ann’s works.
You will be immediately impressed by the powerful and diverse nature of the Australian landscape which has been captured through Ann’s eyes.
Ann grew up in Leeton and has spent most of her life in the country area of the Riverina.
She lived in Hobart for several years where she began painting for the first time when she was 43-years-of-age.
She went back to Leeton in 2006 she began painting the local landscape and has spent many weekends travelling around the country painting.
“The Australian landscape has had a huge impact on my recent work,” she said.
“Bright sunlight and strong shadows create an impact that inspires my work.
“The eucalypts are like sentinels guarding the dirt tracks and rivers, possessing a strength and tenacity that see them surviving fire and flood and man’s intervention”
She loves the imposing shapes of the rocks on grassy hills, scratchy scribbly twigs amongst the forest floor, the anger of the waves crashing on the beach and the “vastness of the horizon make Australia beautiful and mysterious”.
“The diversity of the Australian landscape and the widespread ripple effect of changing parameters such as fire, flood and drought are evident in my work,” she said.
“I explore these landscapes through experimenting with mediums such as ink, pastel, charcoal, acrylic and collage.”
Ann is an award-winning full-time professional artist, working out of her gallery/Studio, Artisann Studio 40 in Leeton.
She teaches weekly art classes and workshops out of her gallery and travels as an art tutor in NSW, Victoria and ACT.
Ann will soon be having a sea change as she moves to live at Dolphin Point.
“I am very excited about the move and the impact it will have on my art. I will be immersing myself in everything the area offers,” she said.
