The mammoth walk is not only a personal challenge but she and her fellow trekkers are supporting a Nepalese charity.

Andrea, her husband Rod and work colleague Jo Jones are part of a group of 11 real estate agents and other professionals from around Australia set to trek to Base Camp from Friday, April, 26.

The principal of the locally based Tucker Real Estate said the trekkers were part of a mastermind group who networked together.

The topic of bucket lists came up at a seminar - and planning for the Base Camp trek soon followed.  

The group wanted to do more than just go trekking however.

"Once we decided to do the walk I thought that if we are going to all this trouble, we should add in a charity element to it," Andrea said.

"I am director of youth for Rotary Club of Milton Ulladulla and we have the backing of our local rotary club and support from other clubs around Australia."

With all this support behind her, Andrea found the perfect charity to help.

Andrea wanted to find a sustainable cause to support and she looked into the charity called Seven Women which supports Nepalese women and children.

"It (Nepal) is a third world country and there is a lot of marginalisation of women and children," Andrea said.

"Stephanie, who set up Seven Women, teaches women skill sets so they can actually go out get a job and earn an income.

"If they are not married and don't have the support of a husband then these women really don't have any other source of income.

"It's the same with children and with every $250 we raise will allow a child to go to school for a full year. The $250 includes textbooks, food, uniforms and the education."

So far they had raised $3500 and more funds are coming in.

They also have a website set up basecampforagents.com for people to find out more information about their trek and fundraising drive.

The group will be raising money right up to Friday, April, 26.

"It would be great if people could get behind the charity part of the exercise," she said.

To take on such a trek you need to be fit and Jo and Andrea have been training hard. Jo claims Andrea has been doing the most training but they are both determined to finish the journey.

Andrea said her training program, once they set off, would have been seven months of fitness work. She also linked up with Emily from EM Power Wellbeing to train three times a week.

"She absolutely smashes me," Andrea said.

The strength work will come in handy when they head to Base Camp.

"We will be nine days walking up in high altitude," she said.

"The distance we walk will vary but it's going to between 10 and 15 kilometres a day, which is not a really long distance but is harder when you are climbing in that altitude."

Climbing Pigeon House Mountain wearing a 10 to 15-kilogram backpack on has proven to be the perfect training workout. On her other walks around the area, Andrea is discovering some beautiful scenery.

She expects to return home a better person.

"It will be a journey of self-discovery - not wanting to sound like a cliché. I know this is going to be just as much a mental game as a physical game to get to Base Camp," she said.

"We will be sleeping in fairly rough quarters, we won't have the choice of food - it's going to be whatever the locals will provide as with while we are there."

Simple things like proper toilets and being able to have a shower will be few and far between.

'We won't have all the creature comforts we are used too," she said.

She is expecting the temperature to get down to -10 to -15. Both Jo and Andrea are determined they finish the trek.
