For the first time, at the age of 72, I won't be voting Liberal at the coming election.

I have nothing against the Gilmore candidate Mr Mundine, however the way he has been imposed on us over Mr Schultz, the the properly elected candidate, is absolutely disgraceful.

Prioritise the environment
Ratepayers should be concerned with the decision of the Shoalhaven Council at the meeting on the 26 March 2019, supported by our eight conservative councillors, for the Council to become a third party to an appeal in the Land and Environment Court against the NSW Independent Planning Commission's refusal of the West Culburra Concept Plan DA.
In my opinion Council should not spend our money in appealing decisions of the Independent Body that has thoroughly reviewed a development proposal and rejected it on environmental grounds.
I would rather see the council spend our money on projects that protect the environment and improve our facilities.
A.Nairn, Narrawallee
Forgotten health and fitness
With the approaching Federal election not one local candidate has announced a policy concerning the health of people of the Gilmore electorate.
We in Gilmore are in the top three in the entire nation for poor health outcomes related to obesity, diabetes and chronic health conditions.
We are lagging behind the country in every health outcome you care to measure.
This matters! And it must change.
Sugar consumption, in particular sugar added to soft drinks and fruit juices, has been linked directly to high levels of obesity and chronic diseases - including heart disease and cancer.
A levy on added sugar in beverages has been adopted in 49 countries and states around the world and studies have shown that this measure has an impact on obesity levels and subsequent health conditions.
We represent a group of gyms and fitness groups in Gilmore who are at the coal face of this obesity epidemic. We see the immense difficulty of trying to out-train a high sugar diet.
We commit to actively supporting and promoting to our members whichever candidate will advocate and champion a tax/levy on added sugar in beverages.
The last election was won by the Liberals with a margin of 1,503 votes.
Our support might just get you over the line and into Parliament.
From there you can champion a change for the good and benefit of the people of Gilmore and Australia.
It's just a small start, but a start in the right direction.

Lest we forget
There are memorials for our many heroes;
To be found in every city and country town.
Commemorating those who fought for Australia
And for the British Empire and the Crown.
We should never forget the men and women
Who served in this land, or on a distant shore.
For they fought, and died, and suffered
When, for our people, they went off to war.
