The Dolphins team, who topped the Southern Junior League division one after the first three rounds, have broken through for the club's first title in Albury at the weekend.
Playing at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre, Wells-Hewitt's side suffered just their second defeat of the campaign in Saturday's major semi-final, losing 65-56.
But not all hope of a title was lost, as they had a second bite of the cherry in the preliminary final later that day, which they won 77-62 against the Wagga Wagga Heat.
This win booked their spot in the big dance against the hometown Cougars on Sunday.
In the final, the Dolphins struggled out of the gate and trailed by 19 points at half-time.
But in true Dolphins fashion, Milton-Ulladulla fought back to win 74-70, behind an incredible 36 points by star Ziad El Tobgy - 21 of which came in the second half.
"At half-time, I just reminded the boys that a half is a long time in basketball and to keep their heads up - I knew we would go on a run if we stuck together," Wells-Hewitt said.
"The boys responded the way I knew they were capable of, closing the margin to single digits by three-quarter-time.
"Then we just kept grinding down Albury's lead before the match was sealed by Lachlan Emslie's clutch basket.
"When the final siren sounded, the excitement in all the player's and their families' faces is something I'll never forget - it was my most gratifying win I've ever been a part of.
"I've been involved in the club for 29 years and I've never experienced anything like this before."
In the history making win, Wells-Hewitt credited every one of her players, in particular Joey Brooks and Cameron Pollet, for playing their roles.
The squad, containing El Tobgy, Emslie, Pollet, Brooks as well as Nazar El Tobgy, Jesse Peters, Jordan Bandur, Lavhy Franchi, Jonathon Taylor, Cameron Ellul and Lachlan Emslie, have now qualified for August's State Cup.
