You can do just that in Ulladulla this month.
Not-for-profit organisation, Seaside Scavenge, will be hosting its first Ulladulla event on Saturday, June 15 and will be trading trash for cash to raise awareness around environmental protection.
Seaside Scavenge is a waterway clean-up initiative in operation since 2015. It sees participants collect litter that becomes the currency to purchase quality pre-loved clothes, books and more donated by the local community in the lead-up to the event.
For every 10 pieces of litter collected, participants are rewarded with a token to use in the pop-up market.
There will also be prizes on the day, donated by local businesses.
Head to Ulladulla Harbour from 10am to 1pm, enjoy live music, learn about conscious consumerism and spend time with like-minded people out to make a change.
Participants will sort and catalogue data for the Australian Marine Debris Database alongside volunteers from the local community. This will help the Australian Marine Debris Database to identify what the biggest polluters and risks are to Australia's marine environment.
"It's great to see the community come and be a part of the solution to the impact of litter, especially plastics." Joshua Holliday, event coordinator said.
"It is estimated Australians use close to three billion plastic straws every year. Some of our local businesses are helping to reduce that."
Registration for the Ulladulla Seaside Scavenge is open. Search Ulladulla Seaside Scavenge on Facebook or Google.
