PJ Day, run by Asthma Australia, is a fun way for schools and students to raise vital funds for asthma research and education, and to show their support for kids with asthma across the country.
One in nine children are impacted by asthma, and the respiratory condition is one of the leading reasons that children miss school. Asthma affects 2.7 million Australians and children up to 14 years account for half of all asthma hospitalisations.
On June 5, students were excited to wear their super-cute PJs and onesies to school, each bringing a gold coin donation to pledge to the cause.
"We joined in with PJ Day because if offered us the chance to support students at our school with asthma. Our kids had so much fun, they enjoyed watching the movie 'Sing' whilst eating lots of popcorn and we also raised $70.75 that we donated to help Asthma Australia," Green Street Preschool manager Haylee Dale said.
Asthma Australia said funds raised would go towards supporting asthma research and education.
PJ Day was founded in 2009 by Montanna a young girl who spent a lot of time in her pyjamas, missing school and her friends, because of asthma.
To hold a PJ Day event during winter, schools and childcare centres can register at www.PJDay.org.au. For more information about asthma people can contact the free 1800 ASTHMA Helpline (1800 278 462) or visit www.asthmaustralia.org.au
