Last Sunday saw a group of Ulladulla RATS head out to Granite Falls starting at the highway turnoff from 12 Mile Road.
This run was great training for the Capital to Coast weekend.
Runners climbed a continual eight kilometres to the falls turn-off, then another kilometre to the falls.
One would think after the recent rain we would see a good flow cascading over the falls to show them off in all their splendour, but, no.
To our disappointment, there was just a dribble of water.
The return run was much more enjoyable, a speedy downhill glide back to the cars.
Runners were rewarded with a delicious coffee afterwards at Duke & Co.
Further afield, Ken Saunders, a lifetime member of the RATS, participated in the Gold Coast 10k classic.
Ken has been training consistently for this event and had high hopes of winning in his age group.
I am told he was running under trying conditions.
As always Ken's strength and determination prevailed, and he took out first place in the 85 to 89 years old age group with a net time of 1:22:38 and gun time 1:25:14.
Ken is such an inspiration to our club.
When living here in Ulladulla, he was a regular participant in all events, and a great advisor to all age groups.
Ken and Georgie moved to the north coast of NSW a few years ago and are now heavily involved in parkruns in that area.
Congratulations Ken!
We are very proud of you and can only dream to be running as you do at 86 years young.
Next Sunday's run is more hill training!
Please meet at 6.30am at Martins Ridge Road, left off the highway and a few hundred metres in.
During the week runs begin at 6am with Tuesdays starting from Narrawallee Inlet, Wednesdays from McDonald's, and Fridays from Mollymook Surf Club.
