Police have confirmed the body of a 51-year-old man from Sydney was retrieved from Racecourse Beach near Ulladulla on July 14.
A NSW Police media spokesperson said members of the public were walking on the beach when they saw a body in the water about 11.30am.
"The couple assisted by bringing the body to shore and contacting emergency services," the spokesperson said.
Initial inquiries suggest there were no "apparent" suspicious circumstances.
"Officers from South Coast Police District will await the results of a post mortem examination to determine the direction of further inquiries."
A witness who contacted the Times said the car park at Racecourse Beach was closed on Sunday afternoon. Police had also closed the beach.
Another witness, who lived nearby, said police visited their house, making inquiries about a missing person and ute about 2pm on Sunday.
A police media spokesperson confirmed the man's next of kin had been notified.
Inquiries are continuing, the spokesperson said.
