Google says that over 600 million people watched it at the time. Keep in mind there was no internet, twitter, email or youtube at the time, that's a lot of people around the world getting to see something happening live from 384,400 km away.
If the aim of the television transmission was to provide or make available information to as many people as possible at the same time, then I would say that the mission was accomplished.
Going forward to 2019, we find ourselves in a world full of information overload. We can get information on any topic, when we want it - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
We create networks on Facebook where we can keep in touch with other people with the same issues or interests.

Residents of a suburb or town create private Facebook groups to disseminate information that is relevant to the group such as local crime issues. CCTV footage gets uploaded and everyone becomes aware of the types of dodgy vehicles and persons wandering around, however there are times where Police are left out of the loop.
There is nothing wrong with setting up a neighbourhood Facebook group to keep abreast of happenings in your area, just don't forget to tell the Police.
There are a number of ways to contact the Police nowadays.
At the end of this literary masterpiece you will find a number of them.
The newest way to contact Police is through the Police Community Portal. You just have to google "Police Portal NSW" and this should take you to the correct site.
You will need to create an account with Service NSW if you don't already have one, then you're on your way. Make a report, get an event number and don't forget to mention that CCTV exists (if it does).
Police will contact you later about the CCTV and organise with you the collection of the footage. You may even be able to email it. We will do the rest.
By reporting your issue to Police, we can look at what's happening in your area.
By using detailed Mapping technology and other intelligence driven methods, we can provide targeted patrols and employ other tactics to detect and reduce crime in your area.
As always, in case of emergency, call (000)
Non Emergencies contact Police Link on 131444 or you're local Police. To provide anonymous information call crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. Don't forget. Cops are tops.
