Community-minded businesses and organisations are now drop off points for the Lids 4 Kids project.
The project utilises 3D printing technology by taking plastic bottle caps and turning them into 3D printer filament.
This filament is then printed into prosthetic limbs and distributed to the victims of landmines in countries that lack the medical and technical facilities to enable the youngest victims of conflict to have a second chance.
When Gail Wild from Ulladulla based Sol Sisters heard about the project, from local resident Dee Garrett, she threw her support behind the initiative immediately.
Gail said she thought the project was wonderful because it would make a big difference in a child's life.
"The project is positive, easy and simple to support," she said.
"It's a way to make a difference and it does not involve money."
Sol Sisters in the Bellbrook Arcade now collects plastic lids along with many other organisations - see below for a list of collection points.
The lids they are collecting come from milk, water, soft drink and juice bottles.
Gail said the response to the project has been good and would increase over time.
"I expect to see a big increase of lids being collected," she said.
The tops must be plastic and have the recycling codes 2 or 4 on them.
People can look inside the lid to see the number.
If there is a non-plastic seal inside the lid, remove it prior to dropping the lids off.
Lids should also be rinsed.
Gail said the lids because they are so small, get missed when they are sent to collection stations for recycling and end up as landfill.

About Envision
Envision, a non-government organisation that works with other NGOs and government agencies to provide social and community services through technology has come up with the idea.
The lid collection project started in Canberra, when a man, looking for a way to utilise the non-recyclable lids of otherwise recyclable plastic bottles, found out that Victorian-based Envision had invented a way of turning them into prosthetic limbs for children.
He contacted Envision and offered to collect the lids for them.
Within the first 48 hours of launching the Lids 4 Kids Facebook page, they had eight Canberra cafes sign up to be collection points and it's mushroomed from there.
