A reasonably mild morning greeted the RATS runners on Sunday morning and as the sun came up conditions were perfect for an early run. A small but eager group met at the Lake Tabourie Caravan Park car park and headed off together towards Lemon Tree Creek Road.

It did not take long for the two groups to separate as a result of respective pace but they both headed south along the track for a distance of approximately 10km, ending up back on the highway. A choice for some runners to dash back up the highway gave a total distance of just on 12 kilometres.
Two big runs are now getting quite close on the calendar: the Capital to Coast multi-stage event and the Blackmores Running Festival. Some runners were keen to put in extra distance and get some additional time on legs. They made a quick crossing over the highway and headed into the very pretty Blackbutt Road, through the back of Tabourie and along the scenic route beside Tabourie Creek.
Once back on the highway they headed north to the car park to complete the run of just over 18km. Of course there was the obligatory, great coffee at Maverick's to finish off a really beautiful morning.
A few of our RATS made a weekend away in Canberra and, as you do on a 2 degree morning, were up early enough to join the Burley Griffin parkrun. Congratulations Laurie and Martin for even getting out of bed in that temperature and more so for walking the route in a grand time of 43min 57sec. Perhaps even more impressive was the cyclists riding in an early morning temperature of minus 2 degrees back here on the coast.
Next Sunday, July 28, 2019 is our long course handicap at Mollymook. This is the sixth handicap of the 2019 season and challenges runners in distances of 10km and 14.5km. Meet at 6.45am at the Mollymook picnic table behind the basketball court.
Tuesday: 6am, meet at Narrawallee Inlet carpark, for flat interval training. Suitable for beginners and serious athletes, distances from 1.7km.
Wednesday: 6am, meet at Macca's car park, up to 10km.
Friday: 6am, meet at Mollymook Surf Club car park, up to 10km.
