The Albion Park-Oak Flats mentor and his side, featuring Group Seven's Mackenzie Lear, Dakota Mason, Lilli O'Dea, Bindi O'Hara, Lily Eggleton, Tayleah Handcock, Macey Lee (all Stingrays), Jordyn Afflick, Taylah Afflick and Lily Rogan (all Milton-Ulladulla), qualified for the decider following their southern title win at Yass the weekend before.
"Considering our short preparation, I thought the girls played really well in Yass, which was most of them their first ever representative league tag carnivals," Lucas siad.
"After those three wins, we went in quietly confident to the final but really didn't know too much about the opposition."
Lucas' confidence in his side was well-deserved, as they scored four tries to one in the decider at Morry Breen Oval.
"We started strong on Saturday and scored within the first eight minutes, on the back of the weight of possession," he said.
"But as the balance of possession swung back in their favour, we were forced to defend a lot and repel numerous long range attacks - thankfully our fullback Macey Lee produced a number of try-saving plays.
"Despite their momentum, we went into the break up 4-nil.
"Our ability to hang in there was rewarded by three quick tries just after half-time.
"It wasn't until the final four minutes till they finally broke our superb defensive line - which had been one of our main points of emphasis."
In the 10-point, GSR's four-pointers were scored by Kiara Bolz, Lily Eggleton, Tatum Yeo and Claudia Bush- with Matilda Jones crossing for the Tigers lone try, which was converted by Tobey Stewart.
"I couldn't be prouder of the girls' performance across the two weekends, which has seen them create their own slice of history," Lucas said.
"The resilience and toughness they showed was fantastic, in their first real exposure to this level of footy.
"I'm sure this is just the start of strong careers for most of them, as it wouldn't surprise me to see their names in the Tarsha Gale and women's NRL in the future - which this competition is an obvious pathway to."
Rounding out Lucas' history making side were Collegians' Neave Ferguson, Sophie Rodwell, Rylee Jansen and Tatum Yeo, Camden's Claudia Bush, Narellan's Kiara Bolz and Thirroul's Macy McPherson.
Lucas, who would love to coach this side again next year, highlighted the play of skipper Lily O'Dea (who was named player of the match in the final), Bindi O'Hara (player's player), Macey Lee and Afflick twins Jordyn and Taylah.
O'Hara is one of three players, along with Neave Ferguson and Dakota Mason, who are eligible to play again next season.
Following the under 16s final was the open's decider between Cheyanne Hatch's GSR and the Central Coast Roosters.
Unfortunately, the Stars couldn't complete the CRL league tag double, as they lost 13-12 to the Roosters.
Tries from the Stars' Alana Glasson and Piper Favelle, as well as two conversions by Talia Atfield, were cancelled out by Stephanie Sharp and Jocelyn Kelleher's four-pointers for the Roosters - with Holly Buchanan landing two kicks.
But a last-minute field goal from Kelleher proved the difference, as the Roosters scraped home by a point.
During the final, Hatch's side was headlined by Jamberoo's Lauren Murty, Carly Ryan and Brooke Smith, Kiama's Talia Atfield, Tyler Finn, Kathryn Preece and Alana Glasson and Albion Park-Oak Flats' Brittany Constable - with The Oaks' Rebecca Pollard, Camden's Jenaye Collins, Thirroul's Piper Favelle, Campbelltown City's Keisha Waite, Woonona's Brodie Grogan and Western Suburbs' Sam Groth also in the team.
