As the sun rose on Sunday morning, RATS runners and walkers congregated at the Termeil Roadhouse. A few shivering runners hid out in cars as long as they could, since the temperature was only 10 degrees and it felt pretty icy in the wind.

Lauri Perino and Wendy Smith headed off from Termeil down ... or was that up and up... the old highway walking, and Martin and Ian rounded up the runners doing the trial run of the 16km East Lynne to Termeil stage of the upcoming Capital to Coast event, in which numerous RATS are competing.
Runners doing this 16km stage today included Bob White, Bill Broughton, Craig Hancock, Maree Randall, Annemaree Frank, Nicole Rattenbury and Steve Grant. Thanks goes to Ian and Martin for dropping these runners off further up the road to allow for the RATS to meet back up and complete the run altogether.
On Ian and Martin's return from the drop-off, Mike, Rose, Ian and Martin headed off down the old highway towards the inbound runners coming from East Lynne and in pursuit of Lauri and Wendy who were well down the road.
All the co-ordination paid off as the long distance runners starting catching up to the rest of the RATS. At the 5k mark Ian, Rose, Mike and Martin stopped and turned back. During the short break, at that point Steve Grant ran through. As the group headed back down the hill, Bill Broughton and Craig Hancock came past too.
The last 3.3km to the cars was all downhill and much enjoyed by everyone! Nicole Rattenbury shared some of her homemade date and oat cookies which were also enjoyed!
The run was followed by coffees at Mavericks, with some great stories and a homemade birthday cake from Maree Randall! The RATS celebrated the birthdays of three lifetime members this week, John Hepburn, Bob White and Jack Robertson.
Next Sunday, August 18, meet at 6.30am at the amenities block just near the entrance to Tabourie Beach Caravan Park. Distances and speeds suitable for everyone.
