A group of enthusiastic RATS runners and walkers met at the Lake Tabourie Caravan Park on Sunday morning for one of their favourite runs. We were all quite surprised at how cold it was with the temperature sitting on 5 degrees at 6.30am, comparatively far cooler than Ulladulla or Mollymook.

Rugged up with our new RATS running shirts the group headed south along the highway towards the Tabourie township. For those runners purposefully wanting a relatively flat course, distances of up to 10km were covered along the Tabourie Village Track, out to Blackbutt Road and north along the highway back to the cars.
For those up for a bit more of a challenge, a rather more hilly course was run along Lemon Tree Creek Road and back with a variety of distances covered. It was fabulous to see friends walking and running again after illness, injury and long absences.
Most of our runners were consciously tapering in anticipation of the Capital to Coast 100km multi-stage event next weekend. With five RATS teams competing this event will challenge even the best hill runners in the group but will provide a weekend of fun, laughter and no doubt some great stories at the end.
Our new RATS hoodies will be most welcome if the prediction of a very cool 2 degrees plays out at the early stages of the Saturday event. Good luck to all our runners, make hills your friend and we'll see everyone at the finish line!
Event details can be found at www.capitaltocoast.com.au.
RATS in the field. Last Saturday, Steve Grant ran in the Euroa parkrun in Victoria. Steve won the 5km event by a handsome margin, breaking the existing age group for the Men's 50-54 years record with a rapid 18.23. Well done, Steve.
Also on Saturday, three RATS, including Nowra Athletic Club (NAC) life member Bill Broughton, travelled north to Tomerong to celebrate the final event to be held at the McKinnon property. The "Timberhills" course has hosted cross-country running since 1976, thanks to the generosity and loyal support of the McKinnon family. The family have presented their tough and challenging course to over 250 official events for over 43 years and have reluctantly called time on what has been an enduring and much appreciated commitment.
Former NAC members Martin Tomasini and Jack Robertson joined Bill and their Nowra friends in the celebrations. For anyone wishing to take their athletic pursuits to the next level or just join in the healthy fun in a great family environment, feel free to contact NAC on www.nowraathletics.org.au/ or chat to Bill, Martin or Jack.
