Ben Trent, 22, was jailed for 12 months with a non-parole period of nine months in Nowra Local Court on Monday, September 9.
Trent pleaded guilty to stalking, assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, being an unaccompanied learner driver and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle following an incident with his former partner in Ulladulla on November 1 last year.
Court papers said the couple had separated months previously.
Trent went to the woman's house, where an argument broke out.
Trent, according to court documents, "got in the woman's face" before grabbing her and yelling at her.
The court was told Trent picked up a packet of Huggies nappies and threw them at the woman, hitting her in the back of the head.
All of this was allegedly happening in front of their young son.
Police said the woman picked up the boy and went into the bedroom but Trent followed, pushing her onto the bed.
The victim grabbed a metal pole and threw it at Trent but missed.
Trent then allegedly picked the woman up and said "don't be stupid, your son is watching".
The woman managed to leave the house and Trent, a learner driver, was caught by police driving an unregistered and uninsured Nissan wagon on the Princes Highway on November 5
He was arrested again on December 11 after confronting the woman, and was charged with twice kicking the side of her car, causing considerable panel damage.
He pleaded guilty to stalking, damaging property and contravening an apprehended violence order.
Trent also pleaded guilty to resisting police while being arrested by officers on outstanding warrants around 8pm on April 29 this year, again at the Ulladulla address of his former partner.
Officers found Trent hiding behind a shed in the backyard.
He allegedly abused police, telling them not to touch him and on a number of occasions managed to pull away from officers to escape.
He eventually managed to elude officers and run through the house, before making his getaway on foot towards the nearby Princes Highway.
One of the officers was injured in the incident.
A charge of escaping police custody was withdrawn and dismissed.
Magistrate Robert Walker sentenced Trent to 12 months' jail and fined him $2000.
