Milton Ulladulla Men's Shed (M.U.M.S) project manager Bruce Heather and Shoalhaven City Council mayor Amanda Findley cut the ribbon to officially open the new premises next to the SES Unit on Camden Street, Ulladulla.
On Saturday, September 7, more than 100 members, guests, VIPs and donors filled the front entrance workshop for presentations before they were treated to afternoon tea and a tour from the shed's members.
M.U.M.S president Tim Jamison welcomed all guests including Cr Findley, Gilmore MP and representatives from various donors.
He praised major contributors including the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, NSW Government through Community Building Partnerships and the Veolia Mulwaree Trust for the "broadscale of support" through grants.
Mr Jamison also thanked the many local businesses who contributed with goods, materials or services at "every turn", Shoalhaven City Council for finding the "beautiful" block of land and the she'd loyal members for their tireless efforts over the past 18 months.
"If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to raise a shed."
Mr Heather said it took five to six years to secure land. "It was a long job to get going," he said.
"The first bit of concrete to now took 18 months. We're pleased where we are. It's an industrial sized block." Dale Farmilo was a "great help" too.
Peter Rayner has been a member for four years after he moved from Sydney. Mr Rayner enjoys making pens, two up paddles and all sorts of things.
"It's a whole lot of fun," he said. "I've made a lot of good friends. You get out of the house, you can't watch TV or do crosswords all day."
He was excited and relieved about the new premises.
The 31 by 16 metre shed features a display room, metal working room, workshop, lathe area, picture framing area, library/lounge and large outside area with six garden beds.
