Joshua Neville Miller Thorley pleaded guilty to unathorised person possess firearm and possess unregistered firearm - not prohibited firearm/pistol at his first appearance in Milton Local Court on Thursday, September 12.
According to facts tendered to the court Miller Thorley bought the gel shooter for $40 off an Ebay vendor from Queensland on August 6.
On August 13 he went to a friend's house in Ulladulla to show the firearm and parts. After watching a movie the pair then walked through the streets of Ulladulla.
About 12.10am on August 14, police patrolling Ulladulla spotted two men, one holding a gun by the muzzle.
Police asked the men to stop and drop the gun. Miller Thorley placed the gel shooter on the ground and went to his knees with his hands on his head.
"I'll do what you ask, it's a gel gun," he said to police.
Police seized the gun and found gel balls and a refill vessel in his backpack. The second man was released without charge.
Miller Thorley made full admission in his interview with police. An order was sought to destroy the gun and ammunition seized.
Magistrate Robert Walker recorded no conviction and placed the 19-year-old on a 12-month conditional release order.
