Fiona Phillips said the inquiry was looking into how it could almost double the size of the Australian agriculture.
"What we're doing is launching an inquiry into growing the Australian agricultural industry to $100 billion by 2030, it's around $60 billion at the moment," Mrs Phillips said.
"I want to ensure that the views of our local farmers are properly represented during this process.
"There are so many different types of players in the agriculture and artisan food industry field so I'm keen to see what comes out of that.
"It covers a wide area and obviously dairy farming is a big industry, I think we hold around 25 per cent of the fresh milk market in NSW."
On August 22 the Minister for Agriculture Senator Bridget McKenzie requested the agriculture and water resources committee launch the inquiry.
Phillips called for local farmers to make submissions.
"It's really important for farmers to put submissions in because the more people that put submissions in the more the committee will be informed about the impediments that are currently there," she said.
"In the local area... the sustainability of dairy farmers is a massive issue and my focus with that is to encourage dairy farmers to put in submissions. And it's for the committee to look at all those submissions to make recommendations.
"This is a really great way we can get the government to come up with recommendations and have a better policy for farmers."
Submissions can be made until October, 14.
