With the promise of spring in the air, a group of 12 RATS met at the Lions Park, Burrill Lake, for their Sunday morning run. Although it was still pretty cool, it didn't take us long to warm up as we headed across the highway and onto the track around Burrill Lake.

We effectively split into three groups with our faster runners heading out on Burrill Lake Drive down Lake Road and out to Wheelbarrow Road and the highway. As always, the views over the lake through the trees were spectacular and the water was as flat as glass and reflected the rising sun, surrounding trees and hills.
For some of our runners returning from injury and illness, a shorter run of 6km was completed with a loop back to the highway along Romney Park Road and our walkers made short work of the same sort of distance. A couple of the runners crossed back over the highway and ran along the track to Potholes where the surf looked spectacular as the sun continued to climb.
Once off the beach it was back into the heathland for a short loop up to and around Dolphin Point and then back into the Lions Park. Coffee was enjoyed at Mavericks afterwards and we wish to thank the new owners for looking after us with a smile so early in the morning.
Rats in the field. Two of our legendary lady RATS competed in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival on Sunday. Both Maree and Cheryl ran very commendable times of 2.00.55 and 2.16.00 respectively for the half marathon distance of 21.5km in what we hear were fantastic running conditions. Congratulations to both of them and we trust it was worth the T-shirt, Maree!
Laurie, Martin and Barb have recently walked the Cape to Cape track in south-west Western Australia. With a total distance of 123km this coastal track starts at the Cape Naturalist lighthouse and finishes at the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse, passing through the Margaret River region and along spectacular beaches. By all reports, and from the gorgeous photographs, this would appear to be a must do for both walkers and runners alike.
The RATS annual No Watch Run will be held next Sunday, September 22, starting from the Lions Park at Burrill Lake. This is a fun event covering a distance of approximately 6km. Runners will nominate a time and then run the distance without a timing watch. The runner who comes closest to their nominated time is declared the winner! See you all there! Meet at 6.30am for a 7am start at the Lions Park Burrill.
The Ulladulla RATS welcome guests, visitors and potential new members to join them, for any of their runs or rides. All standards catered for. If you choose to continue individual members contribute $15 per year or $20 per family. Ring or text Georgia on 0400 641 668.
