The Milton Ulladulla Bypass NOW group wants to see the long-awaited highway bypass of Milton and Ulladulla villages finally become a reality.

They want to call fulltime on playing "political football' and get this important piece of infrastructure built.

The Bypass NOW group is a joint committee made up of the Milton District Community Forum and the Ulladulla Districts Forum members.

Bypass NOW members come from all political sectors and have one thing in common - they feel 25 years of talk is enough and just want the project done.

Bypass NOW chairperson Grant Schultz and publicity officer Paul Mitchell know the community wants action.

Mr Mitchell said it was not uncommon to see the two forums to cooperate on important community issues and they both think the time for talk had ended.

"The Milton Ulladulla Bypass had been planned for over a quarter of a century. At each election promises have been made - projections made about potential costs and a route was developed many years ago," Mr Mitchell said.

"What we would like to see is that the promises that were made by state and federal governments at the last elections are kept.

'It's a simple concept - promises that are made should be kept."

Mr Schulz said there were a number of ways the Bypass NOW group and the community can put pressure on all levels of government.

"We do represent a big section of the community and we are guided by that community's needs and wants," Mr Schulz said.

"We will certainly be reflecting the very strong desires of the community in ensuring that both federal and state government abide by their commitments."

Chair of Milton Forum John Ellerton does not want to see more broken promises.

"Our community want the promises made to get our votes during the elections turned into real action now," Mr Ellerton said.

"In every election for the last 25-years, the same promises have been made and then broken."

Meanwhile, Mr Schultz said the reason why the new committee was formed was due to the community demanding that the bypass construction finally moves out of the drawing-room.

Mr Schutlz, to be fair to all levels of government, understands there are "competing interests" and "strong competition for infrastructure investment".

He also understands a $25 billion project like the highway duplication will take time but believes a smaller piece of the highway upgrade, like the bypass, could be done now - not later.

"It (the bypass) could be kicking off very quickly and I am sure it will," Mr Schultz said.

Mr Schultz said they are currently waiting for some clarity from the State Government on the bypass planning.

Mr Mitchell added community members can play a role in getting the bypass completed by writing letters to their members of parliament.

All the details people need to write a letter is on the bypass group's Facebook page (Milton Ulladulla Bypass NOW).

"What community members can do is keep the Milton Ulladulla bypass in the mind of our political representatives when they are sitting down with ministers and senior public servants," Mr Mitchell said.

"In that way, the bypass will always be kept on the agenda and the priority we as locals know it needs to be."

Mr Schultz is well known around the region and when gets out in the community the bypass is one of the common topics.

"The usual question is are they going to go ahead with it," Mr Schulz said.

Mr Schultz said the good news was Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips and the State Member for the South Coast Shelley Hancock had both shown a desire to get the bypass done.

The group is planning some public information sessions possibly later this year or early in 2020 for residents to attend and get updates.

Politicians and senior public servants will be invited to attend to explain the latest on the bypass front.

Mr Mitchell said the community would love some details on things like the exact route and get a definite time-frame for the work.
