Lives depend on Newstart
It saddens me that Newstart wouldn't even cover rent per week, let alone food, utilities or prescriptions.

With more and more forced into homelessness, it is a heartbreaking reality for too many.
To face this with children, or nearing the end of your working life is horrendous, spiralling into depression and worse.
It needs to be increased, lives depend on it.

Mayor out of order
It is unacceptable that Mayor Findley has often attempted to ride rough shod over the majority of councillors by disregarding the standards that govern meetings.
On numerous occasions, council has overturned rulings of this Mayor and even corrected the minutes of the last extraordinary meeting as a clear demonstration that this Mayor is regularly out of order.
Greens and Labor supporters who flood the public gallery from meeting to meeting love to rip into us with the odd letter to the editor. They have a go during meetings as well with the Mayor usually 'tone deaf' to their interjections.
So, thanks J. Crabb, your crankiness and your resulting response was certainly appreciated but the allegations you make are false.
Council meetings would be sedate affairs (and they mostly are) if we all sat back and let the Mayor do as she pleases.
That will not always happen on my (limited) watch as the standard you walk past are the standards you then accept.

Councillors called out
Thank you, J. Crabb, for enlightening the public on the behaviour of two councillors at a council meeting following the 2018 climate change rally by school students.
Mayor Findley responded to a request by the students to read their statement at the council meeting.
She opened the meeting and read their statement and congratulated them for their efforts.
I say congratulations to Mayor Findley for listening to our teenage students. They have more concern and compassion for the future of our planet than those who just stick their head in the sand.
Councillor Pakes berated the Mayor by saying she was encouraging students to miss school. What a load of codswallop.
He also said "Illness or death" was the only two reasons for students not being at school. What a callous statement. Is this councillor for real?
Councillor Guile rudely talked over the Mayor while she read the statement and asserted she had not asked his permission to do so.
Come on, is there NO Democracy in this council.
The behaviour from these two Councillors was appauling. Such behaviour from any Councillors should always be called out. They most certainly would not get my vote.
Is this the type of calibre that is elected to represent and work for the ratepayers of the Shoalhaven?.
If so, it's high time they were voted out and a new brigade voted in.
Amanda Findley would get my vote for Mayor.

Tribute to Corey
I knew Corey Bain initially as a student at our school and then later as a young man. He was the most positive person I have ever met, always had a cheeky grin on his face and look out on the soccer field, he was a force to be reckoned with.
Never once did he complain about having cystic fibrosis. He just looked for the best things out of every day and he made the world a better place for all of those who were touched by his infectious personality.
He will be greatly missed.
