Thursday 7th November
Match introduced, Defending champions Liz Wootton, Jo Cattley, Jeanie Thompson and Ros Jamieson taking on Carmen Colusso, Di Rupp, Daphne Menzies and Kath Fraser in the Club Fours Final. The weather was not their friend and made the conditions on the green extremely difficult. Both teams had a great game. Unfortunately, there can only be one winning team and this year it was taken out by reigning champs Roz, Jo, Jeanie and Liz. Congratulation to you all.
Thank you to Cherilyn for umpiring and Controlling Body, Cheryl Davies.
After the game, presentation of Stars were awarded to the winning team.
Another busy week of birthdays, with 2 Big '0's Past President Cheryl turning 70, Maria Pin 60 and Carol Monte. We hope you all had lovely Birthdays.

We are getting down to the business end of the Alf Green h'cap singles and the results are still confusing the experts with a couple of results going the way of the newcomers, or maybe they were blessed with some seriously good handicapping. But no matter how you look at it, you still need to bowl well to get to 150 first. There were two games played this week with Harvey Wootton getting up over Alan Clark on Wednesday, followed by the showdown between Kingy and Grassy on Sunday which drew a very good crowd in the observation area and they were not disappointed. Clayton got off to a flyer with some very good bowls and Grassy was left wondering what he had to do to get into the game and try as he might, for every bowl he put near the jack, Clayton was able to not get one closer, but sometimes two. By the time Kingy got to 100, Grassy must have been 30 behind. Then the fightback began, and as Clayton crawled to 130, the Grassman came looking for him and would just not give up, and with the score getting to 148-141 in Clayton's favour the last end was a cracker, but unfortunately Grassy couldn't hold him out and Clayton went on to get there first. It was a very good game played in wonderful spirit by both competitors with just a lovely bit of sportsmanship on display by both players. So now Harvey plays Mike Frame next Sunday and Kingy plays the winner of that in the final.
The Club Challenge was played last weekend and unfortunately our two teams did not progress further in the comp., but were not disgraced as the competition was pretty fierce and wins were very hard to come by. Next weekend sees the gold side compete in their grade and we wish them all the best at Kiama. The club fours entry is on the board for next year, so scout around and get a team together; also on the district board are the entries for the district fours for open, senior and reserve comps, so please think about getting a side together and going in these, they are really good practice for the upcoming pennant season.

The final of the club Mixed Triples championship was played in cool & gratefully calm conditions. The teams were Sid Brand (S), Ray Flinn & Kaye Smith versus Ron Wall, Andrew & Kerrie Jarvis. Both teams had a good chance to win, based on abilities. Ron's team took eight ends to take the lead, but only by one shot (7/6). Sid's team then got held on 6 for 6 ends by a combination of slightly better play by Ron's team & slightly less luck. For example, Sid mentioned after the game that at one stage he had four "touchers" in a row & did not score a point. However they tried hard from therein & after 20 ends were just three shots behind (16/13) & still a chance. The Wall team, after stagnating on 16 for six ends snapped into action with two 3's & a 2 to win 23/14. Well done, both teams played some very good bowls indeed.
SOCIAL: Keith Simm, long-time visitor from Western Creek (ACT) also John Graham & Joe Ruggiero (M-U) were warmly welcomed to the Wednesday club select triples. The visitors played on the one rink with Joe & John skipped by Andy Jarvis having a very good 34/16 win over Hutch, Peter Crowe & Keith. Lucky rink winners were however Dave Harrison, Brian Stanmore & Les Dunn. Lucky losers were Sid, Scoop & Craig. Friday's major jackpot then at $160 escaped capture but O.T Hill & the Beaver claimed the $120 prize playing against the Frasers who won 34/25. However Terry & Dave got 9 points on the random rinks compared with Bina & Ted's 8 points. Marks HB SHOUT went to Craig & les Dunn & the KENO voucher to Brian Stanmore & Jack Field. NOTE: The Hospital Auxiliary will be with us 4pm this Friday (15th) for a shortened game of bowls, followed by a barbecue & the presentation of our annual donation cheque, readily collected by V.P Dave Beavis & only occasionally at gun-point from our members. Cost is $10, all moneys collected on the day will be added to that amount.
