A gorgeous clear, cool morning greeted the Ulladulla RATS as they met at the Lake Conjola tennis court car park on Sunday. As usual there was a significant amount of chatter before time was called and we headed off towards Narrawallee Creek Road. It didn't take long before the speed demons in the group were well ahead of the second smaller pack of runners. Closely behind were our regular walkers who were aiming for a circuit of approximately 7km.

A left-hand turn into Buckley's Point Trail took the groups into the beautiful Narrawallee Creek Reserve where it was cool and sandy under foot. As usual and despite some great conversations the runners were pretty cautious with their foot placement as the track was very dry with both rocks and tree roots being quite exposed. The front pack ran extra distance by following the Mangrove Track and looping back towards Buckley's Point while a smaller group headed off down to the Inlet and enjoyed some fantastic views west towards the mountains. We did have one penguin (RAT speak for a fall!) and I would imagine Bill is still spitting out the sand from his mouth! Luckily no major injuries today.
As the tide was low, a few runners headed north along Conjola Beach ducking back into the scrub behind Buckley's Point and then rejoining the beach further north to continue up the boardwalk, through the caravan park and back to the cars. Those runners keen for a shorter distance headed back to the cars without the extra beach run. Final distances ranged from 7km to just over 18km.
The Conjola run rates as one of our favourites within the RATS club as it consistently rewards us with such a variety of beautiful scenery. Coffee at Tilly and Mo's after the run is just an added bonus!
Rats in the Field. On Saturday a few of our RATS joined the Mollymook Marathon to walk a distance of 60km in support of the 60 men that are lost to suicide each hour, every hour across the world. It was a great effort from all those involved.
A reminder to all RATS that our annual Christmas run is being held on December 15. Please mark it in your calendars!
