The annual North versus South bash that precedes the Presentation Day luncheon commenced with a big belly laugh from Ron Wall's now famous "Hitler's Rant" video, dubbed with dialogue & names of our bowlers for the bash. The side's captains then had the stage to hopefully motivate their troops. For the South side Eric "Haggis" Woodburn went back 700 or so years into Scottish history to the days when William Wallace led the Scots to free them from English rule. Maybe in this passioned speech there was a subtle reference to Brave Heart? The North's captain Dave Henry energeticaly roused his troops finishing with a song & dance that was the equal of Tina Turner. South's won, proving again that history repeats itself! The score: 132/103.
The luncheon was well done by our new Jacks on the Green bistro.... prawns aplenty likewise the rest of the tucker. In addition to the bowlers, President Lyn Youren, the lady umpires, winners & runners up in the mixed events joined the men. Also welcomed by Pres. Brian Thurecht were Club Patron Pete Robinson, our life members Tony Hutchins, Barry Webb, Ron Henry & our newest, "speedy" Ted Fraser. They presented trophies where applicable. Major recipients (winners only) were: Mixed Pairs Ron Wall, Tracie Hoult. Mixed Triples Ron Wall, Andrew & Kerrie Jarvis. Mixed Fours Dave Henry, Chris & Kerry Machon, Lyn Dobel. Major Fours Ron Wall, Ray Flinn, Dave Harrison, Andrew Jarvis. Major Triples Gary McGuire, Kerry Jones, Ted Fraser. Major Pairs Ray Flinn, Andrew Jarvis. Dave Tucker Minor Singles: Dave Harrison . CLUB CHAMPION Gary McGuire (runner-up Paul Barnes). Gary had a great year with wins as skip in the Veteran's Pairs, Handicap Fours, Maj/Min Pairs & runner-up with Harro in the Maj. Pairs. He well deserved the ultimate award. Last but not least Dan Prestage won the Al Bambury Memorial Coach award for most improved male bowler.

Well, the year is drawing to a close with a very enjoyable Saturday "Thank you" day to all the members who have been so supportive of the club during the year. Week after week you turn up for a game of bowls, with sometimes finding the selection not quite to your liking, but the game is played, and then the post game debrief is enjoyed by everybody. Your willingness to enter the club championships is a great sign of the health of the club with quite a few of the newer members aspiring to bigger and better goals. Next year has already begun to be planned with the fours draw already up with the first and second rounds on the weekend of 11th and 12th of January. The district fours commence the weekend before with two teams entering from our club. Also up on the board is the entry for the major pairs so get out there and find a partner and have a crack; don't forget to put your entry fee of five dollars in the box as you put your entry in.
