The jail is located in South Nowra, just off the Princes Highway and has bush surrounding every side of it.
A spokesperson for Corrective Services NSW said it was liaising with the RFS and its priority was the safety of staff and inmates.
"We continue to liaise with the Rural Fire Service and are grateful for their assistance, including placing precautionary containment lines to the east of the centre," the spokesperson said.
"There are no plans to evacuate the facility at the moment as inmates are safe and best contained at the centre.
"The centre is made of concrete and steel and is surrounded by two outer perimeter fences, including a large outer concrete wall."
The spokesperson said there were also large expanses of clear ground surrounding the prison to help create a fire break.
"Hydrants and hoses are available to put out any spot fires should any embers fall into the centre," the spokesperson said.
"P2 masks have been issued to all staff and inmates as a precautionary measure.
"We continue to monitor inmates alongside the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network."
