And one organisation that has thrown its support behind the effort in helping the victims has been the Freemasonry group, Lodge Nowra Unity.
Back before Christmas when this disaster first started emerging the organisation put out a call to arms through its Young Masonry Group to fellow lodges in the Sydney region.
Using WhatsApp, a call was put out and according to past Regional Area Councillor Glen Green the response has been overwhelming.

On Sunday morning, after large parts of the Shoalhaven and further south was devastated by the Currowan fire, four trucks including a tabletop truck with around 14 pallets worth of supplies, along with two hire trucks packed to the brim, another truck as well as a utility and trailer arrived in Nowra.
They were all full with food, water and other necessities.
A number of local members gathered at the Nowra lodge building to undertake the unloading and organise the distribution
"The response has been outstanding and overwhelming at the same time," Mr Green said.
"We asked our members to look in their cupboards and see if they had any quality clothes they no longer needed, food supplies and water.
"It's a bad analogy but the response spread like wildfire.
"The trucks arrived on Sunday with food, water, toiletry items and various necessary baby needs."
Such was the response, the bottom level of the Nowra lodge was filled with donated items.
Mr Green said it has been arranged to get some of the items to the Milton lodge where they would be distributed by the Red Cross in Ulladulla.
"This is just what masonry does, helping others in need," Mr Green said.
