RFS crews used cool conditions on Thursday, January 9 to prepare for a "challenging" Friday, and urged residents to do the same.

The fire danger rating for Friday is predicted to be very high, with temperatures in the mid-high 30s and gusty winds, northerly during the day with a southerly change in the evening. The perimeter of the fire is currently about 1200 kilometres.
"It will put pressure on all areas of the fireground, with gusts up to 60km/h during the evening and into the night," RFS public liason officer Angela Daly said.
"We know it's been going on for many weeks but if there's something you haven't done to prepare your property, do it today. Make your preparations.
"Stay up to date and know what you're going to do if the situation changes tomorrow.
"Leaving early is safest option, especially if your property isn't prepared, or you are not physically or mentally prepared to stay and defend.
"By early we mean Thursday night or very early Friday morning."
On Thursday, crews were kept busy "mopping up" hotspots from Kangaroo Valley to south of Ulladulla.
Firefighters were making their way on foot to inaccesible areas in Kangaroo Valley to contain flareups.
"We are doing a small back-burn in Tomerong to consolidate the fire's edge there," Ms Daly said.
"North Nowra crews are working from the river up to Cambewarra Mountain to mop up and patrol any areas they can access.
"There is so much fire in the landscape, with areas of unburnt country in and around coastal communities, so crews are working to mop up, patrol and deal with any flareups across the whole fireground on the South Coast."
The Comberton fire remains under control, although it has been "smoking up" in the afternoons. Crews are monitoring and patrolling the area ahead of Friday's deteriorating weather conditions.
Ms Daly recommended people stay up to date with reliable sources of information such as Fires Near Me, LiveTraffic, ABC Radio and the Bureau of Meteorology.
"Weather predictions are just that, a prediction and they can change," she said.
"Keep up to date on when changes are likely to come through.
"We want to stress there is a significant amount of uncontained fire across the whole area and it is going to be another challenging day.
"We need people to continue to work with us so we can keep everyone safe."
