Neither Gilkes (Sydney Thunder) and Maddinson (Melbourne Stars) have been named in their respective Big Bash League cricket matches scheduled for today (Wednesday January 15).
We await clarification as to why Gilkes was not selected in the Thunder's squad for the match against the struggling Renegades at Canberra's Manuka Oval.
Jay Lenton has been named in the squad and could be in line to take up Gilkes' spot as wicket-keeper.
The Melbourne Stars recently named a 13-player squad for its match against the Perth Scorchers today at Optus Stadium.
Maddinson who has been struggling with a shoulder injury was not named in the squad.
Nathan Coulter-Nile returns to the squad for Jonathan Merlo.
The Stars are currently sitting on top of the table with eight wins and one loss.
The Thunder sits on six place with nine points and needs victory to stay in touch with the top five.
