Money was raised, the house moved and in 1994 an Op Shop was born. Now, 25 years later a new chapter has begun for that old shop and the church that has kept it company.
On Saturday 100 people, including Dulcie, deputy mayor Patricia White and Councillor Joanna Gash gathered on site for the official opening and dedication of the refurbishment and extension to what was the original Op Shop and Uniting Church Worship Centre.
Under a clear sky, Reverend Grant Bilbey, together with the wonderful new minister of the Milton Ulladulla Uniting Church Simaima Tuiono, led the dedication of both extensions and a Memorial Garden in memory of Barry 'The Plant Man' Bryant.
The facelift and magnificent extensions were designed by Milton draftsman Andrew Bell together with construction by local builders Sean and Laura Grabia.
Daniel Heath expertly supervised the build and provided the eye-candy for the ladies still working the Centre during the renovation. Ces Carey, retired builder formally of Bowral, tweaked the plans and site managed with his partner Fay Kastelein, liaising with everyone involved ensuring a smooth journey.
"Whether you are hunting for something specific, browsing for an unusual gift or just feel like dropping in for some bargains, there is always a friendly face, and the hugs are free," publicity officer Merinda Antill said.
"The centre is more than just an OP Shop, as the name says, it is an Outreach Centre catering for all in need, non-judgmental and just there to help you."
Centre opening hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.30am to 4pm; Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to noon. All are invited to join the church services on Sundays at 9.30am in the building next door.
"Everyone is welcome, come as you are."
