Patricia Pennefather and Lawrence Hancock had one of their final cuddles with Cleo, Penny and Googy before they are re-homed to a care worker's home, who lost her chickens during the bushfires.
Lawrie and Pat hatched the trio in an incubator last year and have grown fond of them over that time. Residents of the lifestyle village also enjoy the interaction, Lawrie said.
"I never used to like chooks, but they're like pets."
Cleo, Penny and Googy will meet Roger the rooster and both residents hope to receive some fertile eggs to start the cycle again.
