In a statement, Shoalhaven Council said it would "reassess the situation as required in accordance with advice from authorities".

"In relation to council meetings, at this stage there has been no decision to close the meetings to the public," the statement said.

"Council is constantly monitoring the situation and reviewing ongoing work arrangements to ensure the safety and welfare of staff."

Since 2018 all ordinary, development, and strategy and assets committee meetings have been broadcast live on council's website.

Council's next ordinary meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24.

Earlier in the week, the Federal Government moved to ban all non-essential gatherings of more than 100 people indoors.

Although parliament is considered to be an essential gathering, Federal Parliament did make restrictions on public access.

While some public areas of parliament remain open, galleries in both chambers of parliament are closed to the public, school tours cancelled and restrictions have been placed on passholders access to the building.

Shoalhaven City Council said Shoalhaven Swim, Sport and Fitness has suspended Learn to Swim and squad programs across multiple locations until further notice.

"All other programs including the gym, casual swimming, café services and all group fitness classes will remain available at this stage," a statement said.

"Staff will be closely monitoring attendances at indoor facilities to ensure that no breach occurs."

Bushfire recovery centres operated by council will also remain operational, as they are considered an 'essential service'.

"Support is still available for those seeking recovery assistance and we encourage affected residents to continue to reach out and work towards recovery," council's acting director of finance, corporate and community Jane Lewis said.

"It is important to remind those who attend the recovery centres to maintain good hygiene practice and observe social distancing as advised by health officials."
