In a statement, Shoalhaven Council said to meet social distancing requirements, council meetings would be closed to the public indefinitely.

"In order to protect our residents, councillors and staff by adhering to the NSW Department of Health's orders for social distancing of enclosed spaces, physical access for the public will not be available to the council meetings (Including ordinary meetings and committees) held in our council chambers until further notice," the statement said.

Shoalhaven Council changed their position on council meetings since last Friday when it said there had "been no decision to close the meetings to the public".

The change comes a day after Monday when council announced a widespread closure of indoor sports facilities, leisure centres, swimming pools and community halls.

Ordinary meetings will still be covered live on the South Coast Register and Milton Ulladulla Times and can be streamed online at council's website.
