IN the earlier part of the decade, Manyana was one of the most feared teams in the Shoalhaven District Football Association - seeing them win the 2011 and 2014 first grade premierships.

But recently, even by their own admissions, they have lost their way a little.
"Last year was a pretty disappointing season in terms of the first squad," Manyana first grade skipper Mitch Butel said.
"We feel as though we have underachieved for the last couple of years now.
"In saying that, it was great for the club to be able to focus a lot of our energy on third grade, who have been slogging it out for the last few years themselves."
It was because of this 'underachievement' that Butel's Wanderers returned to training in December.
"We started our training earlier than normal this year, as we wanted to return to where we belong, which is finals," Butel said.
"When the season was delayed [due to the coronavirus pandemic], we were all disappointed, as we were the fittest we'd been in years.
"Since the lockdown, everyone has been forced to do their own things, to stay in shape for when the season may resume.
"We've also held a couple of Zoom sessions, to ensure everyone is still on the same page."
When the squad, which should involve all four Daley brothers (Rohan, Marcus, Ben and Jackson) as well as possibly one or two more signings, reassemble, Butel is confident they can make noise this season.
"The biggest worry for us in the past is having players fit and available week in, week out, so that's been a big point of emphasis for us this year," Butel said.
"Comradery has never been an issue at our club but if we can incorporate that with some consistency in our combinations, it should prove very beneficial.
"I have no doubt our young squad, full of pace, can squeeze more enjoyment into one season than some clubs won't have in their entire existence.
"If these all go to plan, I know we can achieve our goals, which is firstly the competition championship (in first and second grade) before lifting the Blackmore Bolden Shield."
If Manyana is able to go all the way, a lot of that will have to do with new coach Ènrique Leather, from Chile.
"Ènrique has been a great addition to the club thus far and has refocused a lot of the boys," Butel said.
"He has a huge focus on attack, which should lead to us creating a lot of chances and scoring plenty of goals this season.
"And his passion for the game is contagious - it should be a really exciting season for the club."
