"We're positive about moving forward, you have to be because the alternative isn't much chop," Conjola Park resident Paul Schoonderwoerd said.
"We've got our plans drawn up and we hope to submit them to council but it's a smaller home... because we can't afford to rebuild what we had."

It was hard to move on when the block was full of rubble, but when the land is cleared it feels like a fresh start.
"Rebuilding when you've got all the destruction around is too demoralising, because you try not to look at it but you can't help but look at it," he said.
"With it gone I know what's there, it's just earth and nothing else - we can now just focus on the rebuilding."
For Marilyn Schoonderwoerd, something a simple a starting a garden helped.
"I was pleased when I started to have some bulbs coming up, I planted some broccoli and spinach, just to try and get a few things growing because mentally its good to see things growing."
Jessica Butterfield and Yvette Young are two local contractors who have been working on the clean-up.
The job is a rewarding one but takes a mental toll.
"We're moving from job to job every couple of days so we've got a new house, new people with a new story of how they coped, how they dealt with the bushfire and what they want out of their home," Yvette Young said.
"It's been hard hearing about the heartbreak everyone's gone through and the devastation they've endured but at the end of the day they all leave with a smile on their face and that's what makes us know we're doing our job right," Jessica Butterfield said.
One the day of the fire Ron Coote didn't think it would get to him
"The fire bloke came and said I don't think it will come down here," Ron said.
"He was trying to help us I suppose but then it came down over the hill there, that house burnt and then it came up here to us and our house burnt here and it was gone in half an hour."
He is grateful for the work of the local contractors and was pleased the block had been cleared.
"The people who have been out here have done a really good job. It's going to be a nice house when it's finished," he said.
"It's pretty ordinary where you come out here and the roof was buckled all over, the brick walls had fallen down and it was all a complete disaster.
"We're not far off getting our DA approval and I've got Ron Matthew building doing the construction, you wouldn't believe it but 40 years ago he build the original house."
