A petition started by a local resident this week kept the safety issue firmly in the mind of the community, following the traffic incident last week that took the life of teenager Zoie Bell.
The petition, by the weekend, is likely to have well over 5000 supporters.
A family member was one of the first people to sign and make a comment on Wes Holmes' petition.
"We would love everyone to push for a scramble crossing which stops traffic in all directions so large numbers of people can cross in any direction safely," Zoie's family.
Wes decided he would start an online petition with the aim of shaking up the decision-makers and getting them to finally do something to make the streets around the high school safer for all.
"I just wanted to do my part," Wes said about starting the petition.
"It (the streets around Ulladulla High) has been a nightmare for far too long.
"Not having one zebra crossing near the school is just shameful."
Decision-makers like State Member for the South Coast Shelley Hancock and Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips were asked to comment about the request by Zoie's family for a scramble crossing.
Mrs Phillips said her heart goes out to Zoie's family. She is willing to work on the solution.
"The accident at Ulladulla High School was nothing short of tragic and my heart goes out to Zoie's family and friends. Our kids deserve to be safe when going to school - this simply should never have happened," Mrs Phillips said.
"All levels of government must work together on this issue, but we need to start by listening to the community and making sure their voice is heard.
"That is why I am supporting the community's petition for action."
"The Roads and Maritime Services needs to urgently come up with a plan in collaboration with the school, the community and the council to make this street safe.
"I will also be strongly advocating for the Federal Government to provide the necessary financial support to make sure nothing like this ever happens again."
Mrs Hancock will support whatever safety recommendation is made.
"I will support expert opinion following investigation of the site and accident and recommendation from experts in traffic and pedestrian safety around schools," Mrs Hancock said.
