Two snapper, originally caught on the South Coast, were both recaptured within 1km of their release location, showing some snapper tend to be resident fish, a DPI spokesperson says.
"Gun angler and DPI Fisheries Manager Chris Cleaver recaptured two different snapper he originally tagged himself!" the spokesperson said.
The first snapper was tagged on October 17, 2019, and measured 72cm.
"Fast forward 330 days to September 11, 2020 and Chris recaptured the same fish at 78.5cm - an impressive growth rate for a mature fish," the spokesperson said.
The second snapper was tagged on May 8, 2020, and measured 73cm. It was recaptured 134 days later and measures 77cm.
Both fish were re-released again using a release weight.
