Following Surfing Australia's cancellation of the 2020 titles, scheduled to be held Stradbroke Island from November 28, due to COVID-19, it has been revealed athletes will now have a chance to contest the inaugural Australian Junior Online Surf Championships - which aims at giving the country's best junior talent a platform to compete for individual honours.
Running over three-two week video submission rounds, the invitation-only Australian Junior Online Surf Championships boasts more than $30,000 in prizes up for grabs.
The grand prize for all winners is a $1,000 filming budget and a professionally made individual video edit as well as three social clips made by The Surfing Australia mySURFtv crew.
Each social clip will be posted on Surfing Australia's social channels and given to the recipients.
As an added bonus to the event none-other-than three-time World Surf League (WSL) world champion Mick Fanning will feature in each round's recaps as well announce the winners of the competition on December 10, 2020.
"It's extremely exciting to be able to offer the chance to compete in this awesome online platform in 2020," "Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said.
"We hope the annual Australian Junior Surfing Titles will be back on North Stradbroke Island in 2021."
Head Olympic judge Glen Elliott will lead a three-person panel with Olympic judge and dual women's world longboard champion (WSL/ISA) Tory Gilkerson and WSL WT judge Ty Conaghan, in officiating what is expected to be upwards of 160 entrants across the seven-week competition window.
The championship will use the Clippero online platform for competitor submissions and judging throughout the competition period, allowing simple, easy to follow upload instructions.
Entries open on Monday, September 28 following an invitation from each competitor's state branch.
During the championships, Werri Beach's Holly Wishart and Culburra Beach's Buckpitt, who took out the NSW junior regional surfing titles in May, will compete in the under 16s girls category, while Lake Tabourie's Jackson is in the under 14 boys division.
