After the last summer season was decimated by bushfires, COVID-19 lockdowns came into effect, stifling attempts to recoup losses.

Shoalhaven eco-tour operator, Kotahi Tourism, will re-open its South Coast tours from October 3.

Managing director Melinda Loe said she is thrilled, as she believes each tour and visit to the South Coast region will have a positive impact on the community, particularly the Conjola district where 83 houses were lost in the December and January bushfires.

"It's more important than ever that we support our local communities," she said.

"Bringing visitors back to the area is a vital part of the region's recovery, as well as helping our community get back on its feet.

"Since we can't travel overseas, we can instead use this opportunity to explore our own backyards and experience what New South Wales has to offer.

"The scenery, wildlife and beaches in the South Coast are unparalleled and there's so much to discover here, especially now as we see nature regenerating after the bushfires."

The business has modified how it operates to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

They will run private tours only, with a maximum of eight people to allow for social distancing.

They have also removed cancellation fees from bookings.
