The former Nowra High School student knew school wasn't for her - but wasn't sure what to do about it.
Her school put her in contact with Linda Hawkins at Workplace Learning Shoalhaven, who helped her get a work experience opportunity at Waminda.
After that, it was up to Emily. And she shone.
Based on her performance, the organisation offered her a permanent position.
"I was over the moon, I couldn't get the smile off my face," she said.
"I'm so happy to get up and go to work each morning. I get to be myself, and I like literally everything about it."
Finance officer at Waminda, Lynne Wellington said it gave her real joy to see Emily succeed.
"She just doesn't stop all day - she's going to do really well," Ms Wellington said.
"And if in a few years she wants to go on to further education or training, Waminda will support her to reach her full potential."
Ms Hawkins said transition programs like those offered by Workplace Learning are important for students who are ready to leave school before the HSC.
"There are so many students who want to get out of school, and this type of thing gives them the opportunity to do that," she said.
Emily isn't sure what's next for her career, but she's positive she wants to stick with Waminda.
"I'm really grateful for the opportunity," she said.
"I want to stay at Waminda, I want to keep working until I get to the top."
