The Termeil resident, for months, has been trying to get an answer as to why all of sudden his mobile phone suddenly stopped working.
Grant contacted the Milton Ulladulla Times and Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, because he needed help to get his phone issue fixed. He was not getting anywhere with Telstra.
"We got to a point about four weeks ago where Telstra said the 3G and 4G signals from Boyne Mountain were 'within specifications'," he said.
"This took their technicians three different trips to achieve and my phone was still dropping out."
It then turned out that Grant needed to get a new mobile phone.
"Essentially Telstra told me that to get adequate service up here I'd need to buy a new phone," he said.
"It turns out that although my late model Motorola phone was Volte* capable, but Telstra had not "enabled" it.
"They only enable certain phones to access Volte."
Grant was then left to believe that Telstra would get him a suitable phone.
"Telstra promised to provide me with a test phone for a period of time. Then they withdrew this offer. They said that 'they couldn't locate a suitable phone'," Grant said.
"So I bought a new phone. It's Volte enabled and I now have reliable service again."
However, one question still remains - why did Grant's previous mobile phone stop working in the first place?
"No one from Telstra was able to explain why previously my phone worked perfectly up here on 3G and not now or recently," he said.
"I was told that 'things change', 'leaves grow on trees' and so the network changes."
He was not happy with that reply.
Grant now wants Telstra to help the other residents in the Termeil area.
"So, it's okay for me now. I chose to spend money to make up for Telstra's shortcomings," he said.
"The whole process took almost six months.
"However, older people I know in Termeil who have older/non enabled phones, continue to have serious problems with reception."
He would like Telstra " to stop spending millions on advertising and PR stunts." and help residents living in Termeil with their phone coverage.
*Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is a feature that allows voice calling over 4G network using compatible devices. It allows you to remain connected to the 4G network during calls, which means you can continue using 4G mobile data while making and receiving calls.
