The road, following summer's bushfire crisis, has been out of action for months.
Much work, including rebuilding of a bridge and extensive efforts to remove trees damaged in the bushfire, has been done to get the road back in operation.
Late next month [November] is the date when it will reopen, according to a spokesperson for Shoalhaven City Council.
"The expected completion date for Wheelbarrow Road is now November 20 2020," the spokesperson said.
Work now needs to be carried out to fix the western end of the road.
"Geotechnical investigations have been completed at the road slip about 4.9km from Princes Highway and an engineering design report detailing rectification options will be completed by Cardno soon," the council spokesperson said.
"The road affected by the landslip will be temporarily reduced to one lane and traffic lights installed when the road is opened."
