The Vincentia Matters secretary Liz Tooley has been spearheading a campaign to ensure one of the most notorious intersections in the region is fixed permanently.
After a two year campaign, the announcement was made on Tuesday, November 24 that a flyover will be built at the intersection of Jervis Bay Road and the Princes Highway.
It is anticipated the intersection will cost around $100 million, with construction likely to start in 2022.
Ms Tooley said she, and the entire Vincentia community, is ecstatic.
"It's what we wanted, the money is promised and we're all celebrating," she said.
"Vincentia Matters feel very privileged to lead a united community action for something that we all wanted so much, there was no pushback at all."
Vincentia Matters held its first public meeting on November 7, 2018 and tirelessly lobbied for the works for the next two years.
Ms Tooley said the flyover will deliver exactly that the community has asked for.
"The congestion has been one thing but the safety is another and this is finally going to deliver a safe intersection and that's the priority."
