Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock has rejected the preferred route for the Milton Ulladulla bypass.
"Transport for NSW has to go back to the drawing board and get this right for our community," she said.
"The community's voice has been heard loud and clear, and what they are saying is that the preferred route for the Milton Ulladulla by-pass is unacceptable. I am with them 100 percent."
However, Mrs Hancock said things had changed a lot in over 20 years, including the significant growth of the Southern Shoalhaven communities and existing infrastructure upgrades, such as the new Burrill Lake Bridge.
"Most significant is the proposed alignment along Canberra Crescent at Burrill Lake," she said.
"It is simply unacceptable to divide the community of Burrill Lake with a major highway, funnelling traffic through the town, onto a two-lane bridge and through several roundabouts.
"A bypass should be a bypass, and Transport for NSW must consider alternate options further west which include a full by-pass of Burrill Lake, Dolphin Point and Lake Tabourie.
"I have already expressed my concerns to Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole and staff at Transport for NSW.
"Today I also spoke to neighbouring MP and Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance who agrees with me that further work needs to be undertaken to deliver a better highway for Southern Shoalhaven residents.
"Community consultation is currently open on the preferred route and I strongly encourage residents to have their say."
Residents can complete the online survey here by Sunday December 20 2020.
"I also encourage locals to attend the online question and answer with Transport for NSW on Monday December 7 2020 at 2pm," Mrs Hancock said

"While it is pleasing to see work finally progress on the long-awaited Milton Ulladulla bypass, we must get this right," Mrs Hancock stressed.
"I will be joining with residents of Burrill Lake on Sunday December 13 at 10am at Lions Park to support their calls for a better highway.
"Together we will send a strong message that the preferred route must be changed to protect Burrill Lake and deliver the highway we deserve."
Mrs Hancock has also sponsored an online petition launched by the Burrill Lake Community Association and intends to table the petition in Parliament in February 2021.
