'Danesbank' is located at 121 Evans Lane, Milton and is perched on a hilltop vista overlooking thousands of acres of dairy farming land.
Danesbank is set upon 70 acres of prime dairy farming land enriched by its proud historic heritage. It was commissioned by Milton Clerk of Petty Sessions John Valentine Wareham, completed in 1865, crafted from hand-cut local stone and timbers.
The stone used to build the cottage can also be seen in many historic building structures in the area including the breakwall in Ulladulla Harbour, and other original historic houses such as Applegarth and Mount Airlie.
The history of the Milton and Ulladulla community lies within the walls of Danesbank. One of Danesbank's more colourful past owners was esteemed Sydney interior designer George Freedman.
Danesbank had been a creative retreat for George and his family since 1971. Many improvements (including the Glenn Murchutt inspired kitchen) were made to the property by the designer that play an important part in the home's rich and vibrant history, many of which are still visible and integral today.
Opposite the cottage sits the old dairy which was once the active heart of the property. Danesbank dairy farm ceased operations in the early 1900's, but the structure and bails are still intact.
Danesbank boasts a highly successful self-managed, short-term Airbnb rental business, providing a significant financial return to its owners.
