Since its inception, The KidzFix Rally motor show has raised $270 thousand worth of equipment for hospitals in Nowra and Milton to assist with sick children. The Team Shoalhaven motor expo will be held on Sunday April 11 between 10am and 2pm at Archer Racecourse Nowra and will show off vintage cars and motorbikes as well as hot rods, muscle cars and modern street machines. Some of the cars on show will be taking part in this year's KidzFix charity drive which will be held in the second week of September. The route will start in Bundaberg, go through Birdsville, which is just shy of the South Australia border, and end in Moree. "We're really just silly people in old cars going around the countryside on a set route, donating to children's charities and hospitals as we go," said Tony Emery who is the Team Captain of Team Shoalhaven. Read more: As the cars need to be at least 20 years old to enter the rally, Mr Emery will drive his 1974 HZ Holden One Tonner. Mr Emery's team will have five or six vehicles in the rally which normally consists of about 16 to 20 cars each year. He said the benefit of being a smaller event than some of the big charity drives means they can visit smaller communities and support them through spending and donating in their towns. "One of the great stories was when we gave a full transportable dental unit to outback South Australia. It got put on a trailer and allowed outback communities with four or five families to access dental work despite being hundreds of kilometres away from a town centre," he said. Along the way, the rally visits schools to give gifts and, according to Mr Emery, the kids love the old cars. "It's really just a display of the history of motoring," he said. Those who wish to enter their cars in Sunday's motor expo must be at the Archer Racecourse in Nowra by 9:30am. Public entry is from 10am. All funds raised will go to helping sick and disadvantaged children in the Shoalhaven. He said at this stage, money for this year's event will go toward upgrading the skills of nurses in the Shoalhaven hospital paediatrics department. Registrations for the September rally are now open.
