This would be a dream of the whole South Coast Police District.
It is amazing how many reports of thefts from motor vehicles are made with the notation of the vehicle itself being left unlocked.
What does this say to us?
It says that offenders who steal things from vehicle may be classified as opportunistic offenders. This means they will take the opportunity to target the easy ones.
If offenders are searching for a vehicle to steal from they will definitely take the easy option over the option of more work, and more likely risky actions of having to force their way into a vehicle.
On a number of occasions offenders would target a street full of vehicles but only steal from the unlocked cars for the easy takings.

Another helpful tip to help your vehicle security is not to leave your valuables in the vehicle.
If you must leave them in there, do not leave them out for the criminal elements to see with their naked eyes as they walk past.
You can imagine if an offender was to pass your vehicle and see a nice iPad left on the seat, how enticed they would be to put that extra effort in to get their hands on your stuff.
Items which are usually targeted are electronic devices, jewellery and cash.
So, do not leave these items in view as it may be seen as a menu for those who wish to offend.
So, overall the dream continues for people to take that little extra step in securing their vehicles in hope they won't become a Victim of these types of crime.
