The Ulladulla resident opened the doors to Shoalhaven Float on Monday, July July 12 - the Shoalhaven's only float tank therapy.
While it's only been a week, the new business in Ulladulla has already enjoyed a steady flow of customers.
"We had a lovely mix of people in the first week, those who knew all about floating and had floated before, and those who experienced it for the first time," Theresa said.
Theresa shared the most commonly asked question when it comes to float tank therapy - what is it?
Floatation therapy was created by neurophysicist Dr John Lilly more than 60 years ago while doing research on brain waves and altered states of consciousness.
The tank is filled with 10 inches of water and 350 kilograms of magnesium sulphate causing an extremely dense solution enabling people of all body types to escape the pull of gravity. The water is warmed to skin receptor neutral temperature, 34.5 degrees.
Theresa said on top of the physical benefits to the body for pain management and muscle soreness, floating boosts the mental state.
"It's a fantastic meditative tool, it's great for stress relief and it really helps people reconnect with themselves," she said.
"Your phone is off and it's a great chance to have a proper hour out of your day just for yourself."
While some harbour concerns about claustrophobia, Theresa said there's many elements to the experience that each individual can control. The tanks have lights which can be left on, speakers, music can be playing or turned off, the lid can be left open and torches are available.
Theresa encouraged everyone to come in with an open mind.
"I find that the first time you really don't know what to expect and it can be hard to mentally shut off - you're thinking about what's for dinner or picking the kids up from school," she said.
"The second float you're a little more in tune with what's to come and by the third float, you're either a convert or you're not."
Shoalhaven Float is located at 6/116 Princes Highway, Ulladulla (near Vince's Bakery)
