Emergency services were called to the Old Princes Highway at about 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon to reports a car had left the road.
On arrival, police and paramedics found a vehicle had left the road and crashed into a tree, and the male driver in his 40s was trapped inside the vehicle.
Ulladulla Fire and Rescue was also called to assist with the incident.
The man suffered head injuries and was airlifted to Wollongong Hospital in a serious condition according to a NSW Ambulance Media spokesperson.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the man underwent mandatory testing and was released from hospital later that night.
