When it comes after a lengthy joint effort by many people in the community and gives local students access to more education avenues.

A pleasant event took place today [Monday] at the Dunn and Lewis Centre to officially mark Ulladulla High School taking official ownership of a new 25-seat bus.

Ulladulla High principal Denise Lofts, said they had wanted to get the bus for a long time.

She described getting the bus as an "end of a dream".

Many people including Michael Yule who worked his way through the grants process, South Coast MP Shelley Hancock for supporting the school's application for a State Government Community Partnership Grant and Jim Kellam from Kellam Buses for getting the vehicle,

The Parents and Citizens Association, led by president Matt Knight were also thanked for their support.

"It [the bus] gives the school freedom for short term excursions for learning opportunity which is good for the school," Mr Kellam said,

Mrs Hancock agreed with the educational opportunities the bus will give the Ulladulla High students.

The State Member for the South Coast said promoting avenues for learning was "a priority".

School leaders Isabella Vinson and Joel Cable thanked everyone who played a role in getting the bus.

Both students say the bus has already opened many more learning opportunities for them and others.

The bus bears a striking design from Shane Snelson - see below.

The audience was fascinated to hear Shane talk about his stunning design.

"The six symbols are for each year group and then we have Didthul [Pigeon House Mountain] at one end and Ulladulla Harbour on the other with Warden Head there - both are pretty important cultural sites. It [the design] just ties in with the kids all the way through - all their grades are connected," he explained.

'It shows how connected the school is and it has our songlines along the top which are telling our stories."

Shane loves the end product.

"With most of the paintings I do I hand them over and I never see them again but this one I will see it every day, almost," he said.
